Cinema Massimo – From 18 to 28 February 2011
The National Cinema Museum presents NODO ALLA GOLA (ROPE): A tribute to Alfred Hitchcock at Cinema Massimo.
The National Cinema Museum pays tribute to the films of Alfred Hitchcock – film director, screenwriter, actor and film producer – with a wide-ranging retrospective, which will end in March, entitled Rope. The tribute to Alfred Hitchcock is a programme organised by the National Cinema Museum and produced in partnership with the University of Turin’s DAMS college for the performing arts in partnership with the British Film Institute and Bologna city council’s film archive.
The retrospective does not include Hitchcock’s silent films, except for Blackmail and The Lodger (the latter will be shown in March) as they are currently being restored by the British Film Institute, which will present them for the 2012 London Olympics.
The first part of the retrospective will be inaugurated on Friday, 18th February 2011, at 4.30 p.m., in Cinema Massimo’s Screen Three, with a screening of the film The Man Who Knew Too Much.

February’s CULT! evening will focus on Elisabetta Sgarbi with a screening of her film Se hai una montagna di neve, tienila all'ombra. Un viaggio nella cultura in Italia. After the film, there will be a talk by Sgarbi and Alberto Pezzotta.
The National Cinema Museum dedicates February’s CULT! evening to Elisabetta Sgarbi with a screening of her film Se hai una montagna di neve, tienila all'ombra: Un viaggio nella cultura in Italia (If you’ve got a mountain of snow, keep it in the shade: A voyage across Italy’s culture). After the film, there will be a talk by the director herself and Alberto Pezzotta. The event will take place on Friday, 18 February 2011 at 8.30 p.m. in Cinema Massimo’s Screen Three.
Presented at the last Venice Film Festival in the "Controcampo Italiano" section, Se hai una montagna di neve, tienila all'ombra: Un viaggio nella cultura in Italia is based on a collection of poems by Tito Balestra of the same name. It is a voyage along the entire peninsula, undertaken by the film director with the help of Edoardo Nesi and Eugenio Lio, in order to complete an inquiry on the situation and the state of culture in Italy. A long list of interviewees – names familiar to the world of culture (from Franco Battiato to Umberto Eco, from Manlio Sgalambro to Laura Morante) as well as members of the general public – were asked important questions.
After the screening, there will be a talk by Elisabetta Sgarbi and Alberto Pezzotta.

The National Cinema Museum presents George Lucas’s American Graffiti in a 2K digital version for the LEGEND FILM FESTIVAL.
The National Cinema Museum presents a 2K digital screening of George Lucas’s film American Graffiti on Monday, 21 February 2011 from 4.00 p.m. in Cinema Massimo’s Screen Two. This is the sixth Turin-based screening of the Legend Film Festival, organised by Nexo Digital in partnership with the National Cinema Museum. There will also be screenings at 6.10 p.m./8.20 p.m./10.30 p.m. Admission: 7.00/5.00/3.50 euros.
The Legend Film Festival is a touring film exhibition comprised of different sections which will visit many Italian cities during the months it is running. It is a true cultural event that focuses on the masterpieces of the cinema, screening them in digital 2k and audio Dolby Digital 5.1 formats.

The MAGNIFICHE VISIONI (MAGNIFICENT VISIONS): Permanent Festival of Restored Film presents Jules Dassin’s film Night and the City.
The National Cinema Museum presents the restoration of Jules Dassin’s film Night and the City on Tuesday, 22nd February 2011 at 8.45 p.m. in Cinema Massimo’s Screen Three. This copy has been restored by the British Film Institute. The film will be repeated on 23 February at 4.30 p.m.
The film is the seventh screening in the new and exciting season of the MAGNIFICHE VISIONI (MAGNIFICENT VISIONS): Permanent Festival of Restored Film. Admission: 5.50/4.00/3.00 euros.
Following its enormous success among members of the public and critics alike, this year the MAGNIFICHE VISIONI (MAGNIFICENT VISIONS): Permanent Festival of Restored Film will hold four events every month, showcasing cinema masterpieces from the golden age of classic cinema, ranging from silent film to the nouvelles vagues of the 1960s and beyond, in restored copies loaned from the most prestigious film archives in the world. The films will be shown in their original versions with Italian subtitles and every screening will be introduced – whenever possible – by film directors, critics or celebrities from the world of film and culture.
