MERRY MARILYN. NATURAL ELEGANCE, MAGICAL CHARM
This Christmas the National Museum of Cinema is honouring Marilyn Monroe, the star of stars. Rare memorabilia will be on display as a tribute to Marilyn’s inborn charm full to the brim with elements of femininity – décolleté, underwear, beauty-case, jewels – hardly a repeatable blend of naturalness and sensuality.
The display includes the actresses’ shoes – the ones she wore on stage or in her private life – from the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum and a spectacular contemporary installation starring the décolleté 11 red leather stilettos Ferragamo made especially for her.
From the Los Angeles Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the sketches for her set costumes, by major designers. Personal objects from the collections of the National Museum of Cinema: a pair of earrings and a bracelet with ‘Marilyn Love Frank’ engraved on it (maybe a gift from Frank Sinatra...?), a sensual black lace bodice, a pair of shoes with her initials on the sole and, for the first time, the beauty-case used on the set of Some Like It Hot.
More memorabilia enrich the exhibition: magazines of the time, excerpts from movies and the work of great photographers such as Milton Greene, Richard Avedon, and George Barris... who were able to catch the inherent seductive charge of the most iconic of all time movie stars.
A special section on Marilyn and Christmas closes the festive season’s homage to the star.
