Giampiero Frasca is presenting his volume "I cancelli del cielo", published by Gremese for I migliori film della nostra vita series. The author will be in conversation with Enrico Giacovelli.

The much appreciated rendez-vous at the Mario Gromo Library/Mediatheque are back, with the presentation of volumes concerning the vast and fascinating world of cinema. They will resume with the presentation of one of the volumes from the I MIGLIORI FILM DELLA NOSTRA VITA series, published by Gremese, dedicated to the relationship between cinema and the film critic.

For this occasion, Giampiero Frasca will present his volume I cancelli del cielo (Gremese, 2017) to the public, together with Enrico Giacovelli (I migliori film della nostra vita series director).

Sadly famous as the gigantic flop that ruined Michael Cimino’s career and closed an era in Hollywood, Heaven’s gate was one of the most controversial works in the history of film, ever since its release. It ought to have been the definitive launching film for its director, following the great success of The deerhunter, and instead it was the beginning of a ruinous end. Harshly criticised, sometimes with pitches of cruel sadism, even before it was finished, and re-edited in a reduced version in the desperate hope of curbing its enormous producing output, it earned a reputation as a cursed film, in spite of its only really being a deeply misunderstood film, conditioned by Cimino’s perfection mirage and by its forty-year late kolossal nature. Heaven’s gate is the sad story of an obsession which touched the peaks of the sublime, before crashing disastrously due to its frustrating aspiration for reaching the absolute.

Giampiero Frasca writes about cinema.
