PAOLO DAMILANO IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL CINEMA MUSEUM
Paolo Damilano is the new President of the National Cinema Museum in Turin.
He was elected unanimously during the National Cinema Museum Founding Board meeting which took place today, 4 February 2015, in the presence of the representatives of the Piedmont Region, City of Turin, Metropolitan City of Turin, Compagnia di San Paolo, CRT Foundation, National Cinema Museum Association and GTT S.p.A.
The President’s mandate will last for three years.
Paolo Damilano has been the President of the Torino Piemonte Film Commission since May 2013.
“I wish to thank the President of the Piedmont Region Sergio Chiamparino, the Mayor of Turin Piero Fassino, Culture Councillors Antonella Parigi and Maurizio Braccialarghe for their expression of esteem, demonstrated by entrusting me with such a prestigious appointment both at a national and an international level – said Paolo Damilano, the President of the National Cinema Museum. I am aware I am inheriting an excellent organisation and a strong structure, which I hope to consolidate and improve on. I am very pleased the Institutions envisaged this double appointment of mine as a possibility of strengthening the ‘cinema system’: the time has now come to involve private bodies in investing in the world of cinema. I am aware of this difficult historic moment – ended Paolo Damilano – but there are opportunities which, if they are wisely seized, can bear their fruits.”
Paolo Damilano, 49 years old, an entrepreneur born and bred in Piedmont.
He has headed the historic Cantina Damilano of Barolo since 1997, together with his brother Mario and his cousin Guido. Amongst other activities, there is also the mineral water market, with the Pontevecchio firm: six different brands (including Valmora and Sparea) which the Damilanos have been present with on the market for over 40 years.
Their passion for the promotion of the Piedmont territory has been confirmed by the decision to diversify activities by entering the food and beverage world, bringing back to life some of the brands that contributed to the creation of Turin’s identity: from the Pastificio Defilippis, one of the most ancient pasta-makers in Italy, to the Bar Zucca, which was the meeting-hub for the people of Turin for over 50 years. And more recently, also by opening a star-studded venue hosted in one area of the Cantina: the Massimo Camia Restaurant.
A business vision which has also led him to invest resources and energies beyond the ocean, in the role of vice-President for the past couple of years at Vias Imports, an American import company located in New York, specialising in high quality Italian wine-cellars.
